Pour sa dix-huitième édition, le festival « Présences » a dû quitter les habitudes prises depuis 1991 à la Maison de Radio France, actuellement en cours de rénovation. Lille, Montpellier puis Toulouse ont ainsi profité de la « décentralisation » du festival de création musicale. La dernière étape de ces « Présences » itinérantes se tient du 9 au 10 mai à la Cité de la musique. Sous une forme certes ramassée, le public parisien pourra retrouver ce qui a fait le succès de la manifestation : des concerts gratuits, qui mettent en relation créations d’aujourd’hui et œuvres phares de la modernité musicale. Parmi celles-ci, trois partitions importantes de György Ligeti, compositeur majeur disparu en 2006 (Melodien, Six bagatelles, Atmosphères), ainsi que Dérive 1 de Pierre Boulez. Quelques compositeurs entendus lors des précédentes éditions seront de nouveau présents (créations de Jean-Louis Agobet et François-Bernard Mâche, première française de The Eyes of the Wind de Philippe Schoeller). Aux côtés de la Maîtrise et de l’Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France, le Tokyo Sinfonietta, formation fondée en 1994 sur le modèle du London Sinfonietta, fera découvrir la riche scène contemporaine japonaise.
