COUR D’HONNEUR DU PALAIS DES PAPES / MUSIQUE – VIDÉO
Le songwriter canado-américain, dandy pop-rock à la voix de velours et de rocaille, reprend dans la Cour d’honneur du Palais des Papes et pour une première en France son opéra Prima Donna, créé en 2009 à Manchester sur un livret en français. L’Orchestre régional d’Avignon-Provence dirigé par Samuel Jean, les sopranos Lyne Fortin et Pauline Texier, ainsi que le ténor Antonio Figueroa donnent vie aux souvenirs retracés par la diva imaginaire Régine Saint-Laurent – laquelle emprunte ses traits tant à Maria Callas qu’à Régine Crespin. Alors qu’elle s’est retirée de la scène suite à des défaillances vocales, elle est interviewée à Paris par un jeune journaliste, ce qui avive ses fêlures intimes : en perdant sa voix, elle a comme perdu son identité. Sur cette musique inspirée par les plus grandes pages du répertoire lyrique, la vidéo de l’artiste et réalisateur italien Francesco Vezzoli projetée sur les mur de la Cour met en scène la plasticienne Cindy Sherman, dont on connaît le goût pour la métamorphose et le grimage dans ses célèbres (auto)portraits photographiques. En deuxième partie de soirée et clôture du Festival, le chanteur Rufus Wainwright se produira en solo, s’accompagnant au piano, dans des chansons aussi bien pop-rock qu’issues du répertoire lyrique.
