Tout commence avec un couteau, celui qu’Amy découvre sur les genoux du « grand type basané » à côté duquel elle est assise dans l’avion. Elle ne dénonce pas celui dont elle sait d’emblée qu’il est un terroriste, l’installe dans son loft londonien branché, y accueille « Oussama » et tous ses petits camarades venus fomenter la destruction de l’Occident et se porte elle-même volontaire pour une mission kamikaze à Eurodisney avec son nouvel amant… James, producteur survolté, tâche de convaincre l’impavide Olivia, comédienne à la sérénité marmoréenne, d’endosser ce rôle dont il est certain qu’il est fait pour elle. Pour cela, à grand renfort d’effets de manche et de style, il mime cette histoire rocambolesque, ridiculement niaise, insupportablement caricaturale et truffée de tous les poncifs les plus éculés d’un genre que le messianisme américain a cinématographiquement élevé au rang de totems de son combat contre les forces du mal. Le texte de Mark Ravenhill, qui reprend avec une ironie corrosive hyper efficace les lieux communs des films du supermarché hollywoodien, est tordant de rire. Christian Benedetti, qui interprète James avec une énergie et une véracité sidérantes, tient les rênes de cette logorrhée aux allures de chevauchée apocalyptique avec panache et fermeté.
Fantasmagorie d’un réel fantasmatique
Si le texte de Mark Ravenhill trouve dans la mise en scène rythmée de Sylvain Creuzevault et le jeu de Christian Benedetti et Muranyi Kovacs (épatante en belle plante muette) des interprètes à la hauteur de ses enjeux comiques, la portée politique et critique de son propos n’en est pas pour autant édulcorée et elle claque comme une gifle sur le visage grimaçant de la société qu’elle dénonce. Société où le fric et le sexe modèlent tout désir (le requin libidineux et la comédienne silencieusement érogène se font face à cet égard comme les symboles de ces deux puissances), société où tout se vend, y compris le récit de ses propres turpides axiologiques (le méchant terroriste au couteau et la gentille héroïne taraudée à l’idée de devoir se faire exploser au milieu des enfants chez Mickey), société devenue surtout à ce point spectaculaire qu’elle n’a plus comme projet que celui de sa propre mise en scène. Que tout soit à vendre dans cette société est déjà en soi inquiétant, mais pire encore, tout peut s’y donner à voir, l’obscénité dépassant en cela la vulgarité. Le spectateur, pris au piège de sa posture, comprend alors qu’il n’est pas l’otage mais le complice de cette situation où la réalité est devenue une superproduction. De quoi réveiller les consciences, peut-être…
