Opéra Bastille / Chor. Justin Peck/George Balanchine
C’est la deuxième création de la saison, commandée par l’Opéra national de Paris à Justin Peck. Après In Creases, pièce énergique tout en fulgurances chorégraphiée sur Quatre mouvements pour deux pianos de Phil Glass, il choisit cette fois le Concerto en ré mineur pour deux pianos et orchestre de Francis Poulenc, qui semble « lui aussi écrit pour la danse ». L’entrée au répertoire de Brahms-Schönberg Quartet de George Balanchine clôt l’hommage rendu par l’Opéra de Paris à Arnold Schönberg cette saison. Ce ballet se compose de quatre courtes pièces sur le Quatuor pour piano et cordes n°1 en sol mineur opus 25 dans une adaptation orchestrale d’Arnold Schönberg. Sous deux lustres en cristal pour seul décor, Balanchine propose quatre styles et atmosphères différents, marqués par l’élégance de l’Allegro, ou le romantisme de l’Intermezzo. Le troisième mouvement est un hommage aux fameux « pas de bourrée ». Le thème tzigane du dernier mouvement donne lieu à une éblouissante démonstration avec ses costumes folkloriques ouvragés, ses claquements de talons et pas de danse de caractère traditionnel.
