Dans Nous autres, Ievgueni Zamiatine (1884-1937), déçu par les dérives de la Révolution, décrit une société réglée au métronome. Chaque individu est astreint à des tâches fixées, dont la promenade obligatoire fait partie : l’unisson fait alors figure d’absolu ; et s’il traduit une perte d’autonomie de l’individu, il est aussi doté d’un symbole victorieux, dans sa forme rassurante face à l’incertitude de la nature. Dans Promenade obligatoire, il s’agit de faire apparaître une telle synchronisation au sein de la masse organique d’un groupe de danseurs. Anne Nguyen a choisi de faire de cette pièce une « marche pour huit poppeurs » : le popping est une technique de hip-hop fondée sur les isolations musculaires et les « blocages » venant interrompre le mouvement. Une histoire de dissociations et de fluidité rompue, pour explorer la lutte contre les pouvoirs coercitifs – mais aussi contre les enfermements que nous façonnons nous-mêmes.
