Héritière de Büchner, compagne du jeune Brecht, influente inspiratrice de Kroetz ou Fassbinder, reconnue par Jelinek comme « le plus grand auteur dramatique féminin du XXème siècle », Marieluise Fleisser a mis son œuvre sous les auspices de la lucidité contre les illusions et de la révolte contre les enfermements. Dans Purgatoire à Ingolstadt, elle dresse le portrait d’un groupe de jeunes Bavarois, et décrit leurs rapports faits de violence et de désir, au sein d’une société étranglée et frigide, qui peine à contenir l’impulsivité de ces adolescents en colère. « Cette génération a ceci de comparable à la nôtre qu’elle interroge la notion d’échappatoire et de possibles dans une société que l’on voudrait nous faire croire inamovible », dit la jeune metteur en scène Maëlle Poésy, qui interroge, avec les jeunes artistes qui l’entourent, la notion d’héritage entre les générations, à travers un matériau textuel qui n’a pas vieilli.
