Le dramaturge allemand Roland Schimmelpfennig brosse un portrait terrifiant de lucidité du monde contemporain. Au sein d’une entreprise dynamique et prospère, se déchirent des cadres névrosés, envieux et ambitieux, dont la réussite passe par la mise à mort symbolique de leurs collègues et néanmoins concurrents. On est loin, dans Push up, des fantasmes postmodernes des start-up sympathiques et des entreprises à visage humain où les employés travaillent béatement à l’augmentation du profit. Dans cette jungle sauvage et brutale, l’autre est celui qu’il faut abattre et le semblable devient l’ennemi : seule règne la loi de l’opérativité fonctionnelle qui sélectionne les plus résistants. « Réel et virtuel d’enchevêtrent dans un monde régi par la surveillance, la consommation, la transparence et guetté par le désarroi » dit Gabriel Dufay qui s’empare du « thriller mental » imaginé par Schimmelpfennig comme un puzzle à recomposer autour de la déshumanisation à laquelle nous condamne cette broyeuse qu’est devenue la machine sociale.
