La pierre comme élément central de cette nouvelle création : un accessoire et une scénographie qui prennent un sens particulier dans l’écrin naturel choisi pour Puz/zle, ce théâtre minéral où résonnent les sons et se battent les corps qu’est la Carrière de Boulbon. Les dix danseurs ont partagé leur présence avec ces morceaux de roche comme compagnons d’une gestuelle à inventer : « Nous avons improvisé avec des pierres, à partir d’un besoin de faire danser les choses les plus statiques, de faire vivre ce qu’il y a de plus inanimé. Parce que même dans la pierre, il y a de la vie », explique le chorégraphe. L’élément est également utilisé dans sa capacité à créer des espaces, agencé, déplacé, empilé à l’envi par les danseurs, ou à générer des images chez le spectateur, témoin de rituels étranges : la pierre comme tombeau, comme matériau pour les bâtisseurs, la pierre comme montagne à gravir…
Une création qui s’ancre dans ses pièces précédentes
Si le chorégraphe prend un soin particulier à dessiner l’espace, c’est pour expérimenter la question du rythme sous toutes ses formes. Il dispose de l’espace comme d’un labyrinthe ou d’un puzzle, tout en concentrant sa recherche sur les rythmes complexes du mouvement dans le corps. Même si Puz/zle ne procède pas, comme précédemment avec María Pagés ou Akram Khan, d’une rencontre avec un corps singulier, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui s’y réfère pour l’ouverture que ces deux collaborations lui ont offerte sur la notion de rythme. Le chorégraphe oriente l’univers musical de cette création autour de deux valeurs sûres : il retrouve les membres du groupe polyphonique corse A Filetta, compagnons de route dans Apocrifu et In Memoriam, qu’il associe à la chanteuse de Origine, Fadia El Hage.
