« En nous transportant dans un univers satirique de la haute bourgeoisie
londonienne », explique Marjorie Nakache, « l’?uvre de George-Bernard
Shaw pose la question du rôle déterminant du langage et de la culture dans la
discrimination entre les classes sociales ». Une problématique que la
metteure en scène et co-directrice artistique du Studio Théâtre de Stains
souhaite creuser à travers un Pygmalion « ludique, enlevé et
résolument moderne », Pygmalion qui « naviguera en permanence entre la
réflexion sociale et la comédie brillante, la fable moraliste et l’éloge de la
liberté ». Car c’est avant tout l’émancipation de Liza (petite marchande de
fleurs qu’un éminent linguiste tente de transformer en lady distinguée) que
cette représentation ponctuée de séquences musicales chorégraphiées se propose
de mettre en relief. Cela en dénonçant « l’hypocrisie et les injustices
sociales » des sociétés d’hier et d’aujourd’hui.
