Jacques David et Dominique Jacquet, directeurs du Théâtre de l’Erre qui place la création contemporaine au cœur de sa démarche artistique, ont proposé à Christophe Pellet et Frédéric Vossier d’entourer de leurs mots le texte d’Ibsen en un projet de triptyque baptisé Bâtisseurs de nuages. Dernière pièce d’Ibsen, Quand nous nous réveillerons d’entre les morts sert de cadre à la confrontation entre l’art et la vie, entre la création et l’inspiration, entre l’âme et le corps, entre le présent et le souvenir en un jeu de variations psychologiques dont les personnages principaux assument la variation chromatique. Un vieux sculpteur mondialement célèbre, Rubek, revient dans sa Norvège natale auréolé de gloire et apparemment immortel du fait de la jeunesse qu’accroche à son bras la fraîche et pétulante Maya. Mais lors d’un séjour dans un établissement thermal, il retrouve le fantôme et le remords d’Irène, la muse du temps de la bohême, venue demander des comptes au créateur au seuil de la mort.
Mettre en scène les effets sensibles de la pensée
Le dialogue entre Rubek et Irène, à la fois onirique et désincarné, trouve son pendant dans celui entre Maya et Ulfheim, coquelet plein de morgue, de force et d’énergie, qui provoque la trop jeune femme du vieil artiste au réveil de la chair, aventure des plus tentantes pour celle qui s’est unie à un homme que le temps et son œuvre ont pétrifié. Jacques David, pour montrer la superposition des plans d’immanence et de transcendance qui dessinent le paysage de ces conflits croisés, joue de la suggestion et de l’imagination avec adresse. La création vidéo d’Erwan Huon fait naître l’épaisseur mémorielle et fantasmatique qui permet la résurrection d’Irène, et la création sonore de Christophe Séchet ainsi que les lumières précises de Laurent Nennig font flotter le spectacle dans cette brume énigmatique d’un univers mental venant contaminer et mettre en question le réel. Frédéric Vossier a injecté dans le texte d’Ibsen des variations qui fluidifient ses effets et l’ensemble, interprété par des comédiens précis, capables de mesure comme d’exaltation, constitue une lumineuse traversée des vertiges du temps et de ses effets moraux.
