L’héroïne de Loretta Strong (1974) de Copi que l’auteur joua au Théâtre de la Gaîté Montparnasse apparaît aujourd’hui sur la scène du Théâtre Nout de l’Ile Saint Denis, à travers le jeu travesti de l’acteur brésilien Jefferson Eleuterio. Cette créature extraordinaire n’existe sur le plateau que dans « tous ses états » ostentatoires de figure hystérique extravertie, sur le bord d’une crise de nerfs, que rien ne semble pouvoir cesser de faire hurler. On ne peut prendre en charge selon la raison ce monologue en forme de récit intime et de dévoilement douloureux d’une intériorité meurtrie. Le portrait d’un homosexuel travesti est recréé de manière brute. Qui incarne cette histoire ? Un être en adoration devant son apparence fabriquée et inventée, comme s’il était en admiration d’un au-delà de soi ? De prime abord, les atours participent de cette image féminine en majesté : l’acteur travesti porte non sans élégance une robe somptueuse de tulle blanche bouffante, des gants blancs de soirée et une perruque à la chevelure bouclée. Mais les habits ne font pas la princesse qui n’hésite pas à soulever ses jupes pour que le public puisse en apprécier les dessous cachés, pudeur et honnêteté tout juste sauvegardées.
Plaintes, cris et chuchotements
Le comédien joue sa partition à la note près dans cette mise en scène insolite de Hazem El Awadly, sous la musique lancinante de l’Égyptien Abdel Halim Hafez, deux chansons fleuves dont l’une a donné son titre au spectacle. Mais Loretta est en colère et en souffrance, elle n’en finit pas de cracher au monde sa haine du monde, un univers qu’elle contemple à présent depuis l’immensité vide de la galaxie dans laquelle elle semble tourner infiniment, sans repère ni refuge, sans asile ni répit : « La Terre c’est pas une planète c’est une comète. Quelle merde ! » Des chauve-souris semblent tourner avec Loretta dans le désert du cosmos, à moins que ça ne soit des hommes singes : « ça m’apprendra à me faire prendre par des rats ! » ou bien « Comment voulez-vous qu’on baise ? Vous jouissez, ne râlez pas comme ça, on dirait qu’on vous égorge ! » Chair humaine explosée et collante, intestins, cervelle et cœur, le paysage fantasmé de Copi est viscéral au sens propre, procédant du verbe obsessionnel de la sexualité, de la maladie et de la mort, en passant par la digestion, la copulation, l’accouchement et autres bruits sourds ou fureurs corporelles. Plaintes, cris et chuchotements, et rires en cascade, le fiasco est éloquent : des images choc, accidents, guerres, tortures, sont diffusées au final, histoire de réfléchir un peu sur notre condition humaine. L’épreuve est d’ampleur, pour l’acteur comme pour le spectateur qui en sort perplexe.
