Ils sont quatre : deux meurtriers, deux proches des victimes. L’un, employé des douanes a massacré plusieurs membres de sa famille ; l’autre, adolescente aisée, a tué son fiancé qui voulait partir étudier à l’étranger. Quatre au centre, dos à dos, observés par des caméras vidéo, cernés par les regards du public. Ils murmurent des bribes de leur vie, croisent leurs paroles sans jamais se voir réellement. L’auteur et metteur en scène iranien Amir Reza Koohestani entrelace les quatre témoignages, où la jalousie, la folie, le doute, la honte et les traditions cognent au seuil de la conscience. Son théâtre, minimaliste, écarte tout décorum et tire sa force du texte, de la langue et du jeu des acteurs, ténu et pourtant férocement fébrile. Profondément politique, il passe par la fable, la métaphore ou l’allusion, plutôt que par un message asséné. Avec ce quartet, coécrit avec Mahin Sadri, Amir Reza Koohestani fore au plus profond de l’esprit humain.
