Fondé en 1989 par quatre élèves de la Musikhochschule de Lübeck, aujourd’hui établi à Berlin, le Quatuor Artemis a été formé, conseillé et soutenu à ses débuts par quelques-unes des meilleures formations du genre au XXè siècle (Lasalle, Berg, Juillard, etc…). Il compte aujourd’hui parmi l’élite mondiale des quatuors à cordes, fort d’un premier prix au concours de l’ARD, d’un contrat d’exclusivité avec Virgin Classics/EMI et d’invitations prestigieuses partout dans le monde. Si leur dernier disque est classiquement dédié à Brahms et Schumann, et leur programme de ce nouveau concert parisien sagement partagé entre Beethoven et Chostakovitch, le répertoire du Quatuor Artemis « n’a pas de limites » selon son violoncelliste Eckart Runge. « On aime la juxtaposition de l’"établi" et du "nouveau". C’est ainsi que ce que l’on croit connaître paraît sonner avec la fraîcheur de la toute première fois…» ajoute-t-il. Avec aussi Natalia Prishepenko (violon) et, nouveaux membres depuis juillet dernier, Gregor Sigl (violon 2) et Friedemann Weigle (alto).
