Cette formation fondée par quatre élèves de la Musikhochschule de Lübeck finit, plus de vingt ans après ses premiers coups d’archet en 1989, par ne plus relever de la catégorie « jeunes quatuors », mais bien de celle des ensembles de référence. Aujourd’hui établi à Berlin, le Quatuor Artemis apparaît comme l’héritier idéal des meilleures formations du XXe siècle (Lasalle, Berg, Juilliard, etc) auprès desquelles il a souvent puisé directement son savoir. Habitués des concerts de la productrice Jeanine Roze au Théâtre des Champs-Elysées (comme avant eux les Berg), les Artemis abordent Haydn (Quatuor op. 76 n°5), Ravel (Quatuor en fa majeur) et Schubert (Quatuor n°13 « Rosamunde »), fidèles au credo que rappelle son violoncelliste Eckart Runge de réinsuffler une énergie et une vitalité visant à faire sonner « la musique que l’on croit connaître avec la fraîcheur de la toute première fois…». Avec aussi Natalia Prishepenko et Gregor Sigl (violons) et Friedemann Weigle (alto).
