Créé en 2000 par quatre jeunes musiciens passionnés par le Tango Nuevo d’Astor Piazzolla, le Quatuor Caliente a depuis largement trouvé sa place dans le paysage international de cette musique. Ses deux albums parus chez Aeon puis son succès en 2004 au concours international « Piazzolla Music Award » à Milan sont pour beaucoup dans cette reconnaissance unanime. D’abord ancré essentiellement dans la musique de Piazzolla, le répertoire de l’ensemble s’ouvre aujourd’hui à d’autres compositeurs, maîtres du tango contemporain à l’image d’Horacio Salgan, Juan José Mosalini, Pablo Ziegler ou encore Gustavo Beytelmann qui vient d’écrire pour eux « « Otras Voces », œuvre créée cet été à l’Abbaye de l’Epau. Pour ce concert intimiste à L’Archipel, conçu dans un esprit de laboratoire, les Caliente nous font entrer dans les coulisses de leur nouveau projet marqué par une collaboration avec le guitariste de jazz Laurent Colombani. Une façon de faire évoluer le son du groupe vers un feeling plus « jazz »… Le quatuor devenu quintette se mettra en particulier au service d’une œuvre de Beytelmann intitulée « Encuentro ». Au même programme, des compositions de Mosalini (« Apretonados »), Salgan et bien sûr Piazzolla.
