Son royaume reste d’abord celui de l’orchestre symphonique où il offre aux pupitres des bois un surcroît de sonorités graves et mordantes, au charme étrange. Oublié comme instrument soliste à l’ère Romantique, le basson a surtout eu l’honneur des compositeurs baroques, puis de Mozart qui compose pour lui un concerto célèbre et évidemment majeur. Aujourd’hui, les compositeurs contemporains s’y intéressent à leur tour, et de plus en plus volontiers, dans les pas de Luciano Berio qui composa en 1995 pour Pascal Gallois une Sequenza historique ayant bouleversé la perception de l’instrument. Vincent Reynaud, l’un des meilleurs spécialistes français de l’instrument, membre du grand format Archimusic fondé par Jean-Rémy Guédon, réunit ici, sur la scène-maison de l’orchestre, une formation musicale rare, exploratrice des répertoires les plus variés, du classique au jazz en passant par la musique de cinéma. Avec Alexandre Billard, Gabriel Vernhes et Sébastien Wache.
