On connaît encore très mal en France ce quatuor à cordes atypique composé de jeunes musiciens berlinois. Il pourrait s’inscrire dans la programmation du Théâtre de la Ville dans une certaine continuité du travail réalisé de longue date avec le Kronos Quartet. Cet ensemble régulièrement invité sur les plus grandes scènes classiques de la planète (Carnegie Hall de New York, Concertgebouw d’Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall de Londres, Festival de Salzbourg…) et distingué par de grands concours internationaux, échappe résolument aux codes du prêt à penser chambriste. Son répertoire s’offre la liberté absolue de traverser cinq siècles de musique, de la Renaissance à la création contemporaine, ses concerts prennent volontiers le visage de récitals-conférences et ses projets associent souvent un travail autour de textes, en particulier avec le comédien Udo Samel. De plus, le Quatuor a lancé à Berlin les inventives soirées « Kuss Plus » réunissant dans plusieurs clubs de la ville des artistes d’horizons différents : classique, chanteurs, humoristes, musiciens hip-hop, etc… Pour sa première date aux Abbesses, le Quatuor Kuss interprète trois Préludes et Fugues du Second livre du Clavier bien tempéré de Bach (transcrits par Mozart), le Quatuor n° 2 de Bartók et le Quatuor n° 3 de Brahms.
