A raison, le New York Times louait en février 2007 leur « technique infaillible et une homogénéité parfaite »… En cinq ans d’existence, le jeune quatuor français est parvenu à trouver sa place dans le cercle fermé des meilleures jeunes formations du genre. Les Modigliani remportent successivement trois ans de suite les Premiers Prix des Concours Internationaux d’Eindhoven en 2004, Vittorio Rimbotti de Florence en 2005 et aux Young Concert Artists Auditions de New York 2006 qui assurent leur mise en orbite dans les meilleurs circuits de concerts, du Kennedy Center à Washington au Wigmore Hall à Londres. Très récemment, en septembre dernier, le Quatuor Modigliani a bénéficié de l’incroyable avantage de se faire prêter par une fondation suisse le célèbre « Quatuor des Evangélistes » du luthier Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, cas unique d’un véritable quatuor d’instruments réalisé par un grand maître de la lutherie. Ces quatre instruments qui étaient réduits au silence depuis 35 ans ont été fabriqués en 1863 dans le même arbre et produisent une sonorité d’une homogénéité incomparable. Après un disque Haydn sorti au printemps dernier, on est heureux de retrouver nos quatre jeunes français sur une scène francilienne. Ils parcourent aujourd’hui les terres romantiques de Mendelssohn (Quatuor en fa mineur opus 80) et Schumann (Quintette avec piano) en compagnie de leur complice et aîné Bruno Rigutto qu’on ne présente plus.
