En 2006, ce jeune quatuor français a été le premier de notre pays à remporter la plus haute récompense au "Young Concert Artists" de New York. Depuis, ces quatre jeunes français dans le vent développent une formidable carrière américaine marquée par des prestations sur les plus grandes scènes (Kennedy Center de Washington, Vancouver Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall de New York, etc…). « Le Quatuor Modigliani affiche une grande sérénité, soutenue par une technique infaillible et une homogénéité parfaite » a écrit le New York Times en février 2007. L’ensemble, composé des violonistes Philippe Bernhard et Loïc Rio, de l’altiste Laurent Marfaing et du violoncelliste François Kieffer, se voue lors de cette soirée à Mozart, plus précisément à la musique de "Mozart après Mozart". Les Modigliani abordent en effet des oeuvres conçues « d’après Mozart » à l’image de la Transcription par Hummel de la Symphonie n°41 « Jupiter » pour flûte, violon, violoncelle et piano ou encore, plus près de nous, de la création du Sextuor à cordes sur des thèmes des Symphonies viennoises de Mozart du jeune compositeur Laurent Lefrançois (né en 1974). Ils jouent aussi, au même programme, le Quintette à cordes pour deux altis en ut mineur n°4, K 406 de Mozart, tout simplement. Sur scène, autour d’eux, en renforts, Clara Zaoui (violoncelle), Xenia Maliarevitch (piano), Fleur Grüneissen (flûte), Pierre Fouchenneret (violon) et Lise Berthaud (alto). Un très beau concert, dans un cadre exceptionnel et à petit prix… Le même programme sera repris le dimanche 16 décembre à 16 h au Théâtre municipal de Fontainebleau.
