Ce titre générique rassemble des chansons et des textes courts écrits par le dramaturge israélien tout au long de sa vie trop courte (1943-1999), pour ses cabarets satiriques. Sous ce titre profondément ironique et désabusé se cache un échantillon d’humanité éprouvant de terribles difficultés à s’adapter au monde et à envisager l’avenir. Et ce pas uniquement à cause du contexte israélien : les textes de Levin transcendent allègrement cette dimension proche-orientale pour côtoyer l’universel. L’humour noir et corrosif de ses mots acérés atteint dans ces formes courtes une intensité rare, condensant en quelques lignes un immense désespoir, qui cependant ne se laisse jamais aller à la langueur : bien au contraire, le rire est toujours de la partie, féroce et décapant. Sa traductrice Laurence Sendrowicz le dit : c’est une langue « coup de poing » qui « frappe mais n’assomme jamais ». Cette causticité impitoyable et infinie dissimule une tendresse irréductible pour l’humanité, malgré tout !
Théâtre grotesque et burlesque
L’absurde ici fait sens et souvent se fait miroir grossissant de comportements trop humains. L’épisode du hot dog, que vous découvrirez sur scène, est un chef-d’œuvre du genre. De plus en plus joué sur les scènes européennes et notamment françaises ( avec Kroum l’Ectoplasme, Yaacobi et Leidenthal, Yakich et Poupatchée… ) ce théâtre grotesque et burlesque s’attaque de front à la bêtise humaine. La metteure en scène Agnès Régolo décrit la pièce comme l’expression « d’un théâtre de l’urgence », où Levin « décompose et démolit les valeurs qui alimentent la violence de nos sociétés, dans des raccourcis où explosent l’absurdité et le grotesque ». Sept musiciens et comédiens qui se connaissent bien sont en scène, dont les membres du collectif Inouï pour les chansons. Prêts à « gratter les notes hargneuses, généreuses et fouillées du Levin Cabaret ».
