Cette pièce met en scène dix-huit danseurs, hommes et femmes, nus, à la différence de votre précédente pièce de groupe, entièrement féminine. Le travail sur le genre a-t-il été un préalable ?
Olivier Dubois : C’est un aspect de cette pièce, mais ce n’est pas le propos. Tragédie, c’est l’envie de définir cette humanité, ce vivre ensemble, débarrassé des genres, l’envie de revenir à une sorte d’état de corps originel. Etre humain ne fait pas l’humanité. Parvenir à faire exister ce qui ferait cette humanité demande un acte conscient, volontaire, réfléchi, endurant, travailleur. Tragédie, c’est la tentative de faire apparaître ça. Je rêve que ce ne soit pas qu’une pièce chorégraphique mais plus une sensation du monde, en s’éloignant de sa propre forme spectaculaire. L’humanité, si on pouvait l’apercevoir, serait assourdissante, aveuglante, étourdissante.
Une sensation qui fonctionne sur les états de corps. Comment les travaillez-vous chez le danseur ?
O. D. : Cela part de la marche. Tragédie est liée à l’idée de chœur en marche dans la tragédie grecque. Sans exhibitionnisme ni pudeur, les corps ont cette nudité qui n’est pas une mise à nu. On travaille énormément sur le rythme, la quête de l’harmonie, sur cette masse qui va tranquillement marcher, jusqu’au martèlement. On arrive à ce grand exode, à cette course de sortie qui est vraiment de l’ordre de la sensation : on entend leurs cris, leurs humeurs, leurs prises d’air…
Par cette montée en puissance, cette utilisation d’une forme très simple et usitée par tout le monde qu’est la marche, la pièce est-elle voisine de Révolution ?
O. D. : Oui, car on est toujours à un endroit de résistance, d’insurrection. C’est aussi une partition, comme Révolution, avec le même engagement des interprètes, avec cette rigueur et cette prise de conscience dans l’échange.
Ce corps au travail est-il également un corps en souffrance ?
O. D. : En résistance, pas en souffrance. A partir du moment où il y a un enjeu, vous êtes obligé de mettre les cartes sur la table, et comme dans Révolution, je dis aux danseurs : « à la fin de la représentation, je dois ramasser vos plumes sur le plateau ». Mais je ne les force à rien. Le spectateur est aussi en difficulté, éprouvé. Pour moi, il est aussi important d’engager le spectateur, pour ouvrir des espaces de questions, sans échappatoire, sans confort. Révolution est une pièce qu’il faut digérer, et comme Tragédie, elle est centrée sur cette chose très précieuse qu’est l’humanité, car, finalement, qu’y avait-on vu ? Des femmes. Vous y avez rencontré des femmes, et pas des danseuses.
