« L’universalisme républicain, au péril des revendications communautaires, est au cœur de la pièce de Jean-Marie Besset », déclare Gilbert Désveaux. Après avoir créé la plupart des œuvres du nouveau directeur du Centre dramatique national de Montpellier, le metteur en scène présente aujourd’hui R.E.R. au Théâtre de la Tempête. Un texte qui s’inspire des affaires « Tawana Brawley » et « Marie-Léonie Leblanc », deux prétendues victimes d’agressions à caractère racial et antisémite convaincues d’avoir elles-mêmes mis en scène ces faux actes de violence. Touché par ces histoires, Jean-Marie Besset a souhaité transcrire au théâtre ces « vies fragiles et désespérées ». Des « petites vies », des « vies que l’on pourrait dire en souffrance » qui lui paraissent « symptomatiques du monde où nous vivons si séparément et cependant tous ensemble ».
