Il est l’un des pianistes les plus mystérieux de sa génération. Radu Lupu,
soixante et un ans, limite ses apparitions sur scène, raréfie ses parutions
discographiques et refuse toute interview. Le récital du Théâtre du Châtelet est
d’autant plus attendu que le programme semble taillé sur mesure pour le pianiste
roumain. La tendre Sonate n°15 en la majeur de Schubert se rapproche par
son inspiration populaire du quintette La Truite. Les mélodies y sont
gracieuses et les rythmes typiquement viennois. Après quelques Préludes
de Debussy, Radu Lupu jouera les sidérantes Ballades opus 10 de Brahms.
Construites comme un mélodrame, ces partitions illustrent un ancien texte
écossais relatant un parricide. En point d’orgue à ce récital, la Sonate en
mi bémol majeur n°18 reflète la sensibilité panthéiste de Beethoven.
Imitations du chant des oiseaux, motifs de chasse et chansons campagnardes
offrent un tableau pastoral touchant et inspiré.
