En 2005 lors du Concours Chopin de Varsovie, Rafal Blechacz alors âgé de 20 ans remportait le 1er Prix en raflant aussi au passage tous les prix spéciaux, éclipsant comme rarement tous ses concurrents au point de décourager le jury d’attribuer, cette année-là, le deuxième prix… On s’en doute, un tel triomphe lance de manière irrésistible une carrière, mais se paye aussi au prix fort, celui d’attiser les jalousies et de connaître un surcroît de pression à chacun de ses concerts ou de ses enregistrements. Ses choix prudents de répertoire (il se cantonne encore aux œuvres de jeunesse de Beethoven par exemple), sa discrétion sur scène qui confine parfois à la timidité, sa rigueur stylistique et ses profondes affinités avec la musique de Chopin (ses Préludes sont à découvrir chez Deutsche Grammophon) sont les meilleures réponses du jeune polonais aux défis artistiques et médiatiques qu’il se doit d’affronter. La maturité et la clarté de ses visions s’expriment pour ce prochain concert parisien dans Bach (Partita n°3), Beethoven (Sonate n°7 op.10 n°3), Debussy (Suite bergamasque) et Chopin (Sonate op.58 n°3).
