On a été, au printemps dernier, parmi les premiers à fondre devant « Le Sucrier Velours », le nouvel opus de la pianiste Ramona Horvath en duo impeccable avec le contrebassiste Nicolas Rageau. Depuis, le troisième album sous son nom de la pianiste roumaine de Paris a largement été applaudi par la presse spécialisée, en France comme aux Etats-Unis. Partout, on a souligné le swing intense, la jubilation du jeu, la virtuosité maîtrisée toujours mise au service des idées musicales, la symbiose entre les deux musiciens comme confondus dans la même expression, symbiose indispensable dans cette formule si exigeante… Formée à la redoutable école du Conservatoire de Bucarest, où elle entra enfant pour en sortir à l’âge de 25 ans, avec en poche un diplôme de concertiste classique, Ramona Horvath a finalement choisi le jazz et rangé au placard ses partitions de Bach et Chopin, pour se rêver un autre destin avec Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner ou Brad Melhdau pour héros. Pour leur retour sur une scène parisienne, Ramona Horvath et Nicolas Rageau invitent deux fidèles complices : le saxophoniste André Villéger, présent sur l’album précédent de la pianiste (« Lotus Blossom »), et le batteur Antoine Paganotti.
