Comme dans tout bon feuilleton, commençons par le résumé des épisodes précédents : un promoteur immobilier véreux, un immeuble qui s’écroule sur une maison de retraite mitoyenne, cinq personnes coincées sous les décombres qui tuent le temps à petits coups, un directeur de cabinet du maire survolté, et puis des manifestants en pagaille qui revendiquent des logements pour tous… Voilà planté le décor. De révélations en déclarations, la quête au coupable se poursuit et tire le fil de l’histoire… Pour ce projet au long cours, Mathieu Bauer, directeur du Nouveau Théâtre de Montreuil, s’inspire du séquençage des séries télévisées et met la cité en scène : non seulement par le sujet abordé, qui révèle les réalités du logement, de la pauvreté, du vivre ensemble, mais aussi en travaillant avec les Montreuillois, comédiens et musiciens amateurs formant un « chœur ». « Je revendique de m’éloigner de l’illustration de la réalité, explique-t-il, je joue davantage avec les codes du théâtre. La force du théâtre, c’est le symbole et la poésie. » Un regard de biais qui montre toute la complexité du réel.
