Mars, mois de la journée de la femme, est souvent l’occasion opportune pour les salles de faire redécouvrir des compositrices négligées par l’Histoire. Sœur aînée de Felix Mendelssohn dont elle fut très proche toute sa vie, Fanny Hensel laisse un des corpus les plus remarquables de l’ère romantique, avec pas moins de 450 opus, essentiellement dans le répertoire de chambre, avec une large prédominance de pièces pour piano et de Lieder – dont seul un recueil fut publié de son vivant. Elena Bashkirova et les musiciens du Festival de Jérusalem sortent son œuvre du placard de l’oubli et font dialoguer son Quatuor à cordes avec quelques pages moins connues de son frère Felix comme les Pièces pour clarinette, cor de basset et piano. Le cycle d’Alibert Reimann, Mendelssohn oder soll es Tod bedeuten, entrelaçant huit lieder et un fragment de Felix Mendelssohn avec six intermezzi instrumentaux, prolonge un siècle et demi plus tard l’influence de Fanny Hensel sur son frère dans un genre dont elle fut l’une des ambassadrices majeures, le lied pour piano et soprano.
