Nombre de vos textes s’inspirent du monde de l’entreprise. Qu’est-ce qui vous intéresse particulièrement dans cet univers ?
Rémi De Vos : J’ai beaucoup travaillé avant de commencer à écrire. J’ai donc une certaine connaissance du terrain. L’entreprise, l’usine, l’atelier sont des lieux ou les gens sont obligés de vivre ensemble et dans lesquels toute la gamme des sentiments humains peut se déployer. Les rapports hiérarchiques permettent de complexifier les relations, d’exacerber des conflits. Si on lit correctement mes pièces, on remarque que les gens ne travaillent pas. Ils sont arrêtés. C’est ce moment précis qui m’intéresse. Il y a aussi la question de la langue, du pouvoir du langage. Toutes sortes de choses intéressantes, à mon avis, à traiter au théâtre.
De quoi est-il question, plus précisément, dans Cassé ?
R. D. V. : D’un couple dans la tourmente. Elle a perdu son travail, lui est sur le point de perdre le sien. Dans son entreprise, il y a des suicides. Elle l’oblige à faire croire qu’il s’est suicidé pour toucher l’assurance-vie… Nous sommes entrés dans une période très difficile. Et nous n’avons peut-être encore rien vu. Après les « 30 glorieuses » suivies des « 30 piteuses », nous allons peut-être connaître les « 30 désastreuses ». Bien sûr, Cassé résonne de cette inquiétude.

Quelle relation au réel, au quotidien votre théâtre entretient-il ? Et à l’imaginaire ?
R. D. V. : Quand je n’écris pas, je ne sais pas quoi faire. J’attends que ça passe. Il ne me viendrait pas à l’idée d’écrire quelque chose sur moi, ou sur ma vie. J’invente des histoires en travaillant beaucoup pour qu’elles tiennent debout. Tout est imaginé. Cela part du réel pour aller ailleurs, vers une dimension plus obscure, intime, une sorte de dévoilement intérieur. Mon quotidien, c’est aujourd’hui d’écrire des pièces. La vie a fait que je suis dans le théâtre, mais c’est une ironie, je ne m’intéresse pas tant que ça au théâtre. Cette contradiction provoque en moi une tension qui me pousse à écrire, parfois avec rage.
Comment pourriez-vous caractériser l’humour très particulier qui colore et, d’une certaine manière, structure votre écriture ?
R. D. V. : C’est le seul moyen que j’ai trouvé pour supporter, c’est une façon de ne pas être dupe. De quoi ? De l’absurdité de la vie. Du scandale que constitue ma mort à venir. Mieux vaut en rire. J’ai essayé d’écrire des pièces sans humour – ne serait-ce que pour passer pour un auteur sérieux – mais je n’y arrive pas. Je suis fait de telle sorte que je perçois une dimension comique à peu près partout. Le tragique peut provoquer chez moi l’hilarité ; le comique dont on nous abreuve à longueur de journée me déprime. Toutes mes pièces ont un fond tragique.
