Il est aujourd’hui l’un des chefs les plus pertinents dans le répertoire lyrique sur instruments anciens. Contre-ténor de formation, le flamand René Jacobs a toujours entretenu un rapport privilégié avec la voix. Il sait s’entourer de chanteurs de premier plan à qui il transmet son savoir stylistique, notamment en matière d’ornementation. Les musiciens d’orchestre ne sont pas en reste, car René Jacobs n’a pas son pareil pour alimenter en permanence la tension dramatique, mettant en relief les subtilités de l’instrumentation baroque. Dans le cadre du Domaine privé que lui consacre la Cité de la musique, le chef d’orchestre propose une redécouverte alléchante : La Patience de Socrate, opéra comique de Telemann mettant en scène les déboires conjugaux du philosophe athénien. On s’en réjouit d’avance, d’autant que la distribution est aux petits oignons (Marcos Fink, dans le rôle-titre) et l’orchestre, superlatif (l’Akademie für Alte Musik).
