Créée à l’Opéra-Comique en 1899, Cendrillon, adaptation lyrique par Massenet du conte de Perrault, est contemporaine des premiers usages de l’électricité sur scène, dont les ressources n’ont pas échappé au compositeur ni aux librettistes pour évoquer les féeries de l’amour. Mariame Clément en a tiré un spectacle – avec lequel l’oeuvre entrait au répertoire de l’Opéra de Paris, en 2022 – qui multiplie, grâce à la complicité des décors et costumes dessinés par Julia Hansen, les clins d’oeil à l’époque de la création de l’ouvrage, des crinolines aux premiers pas du cinéma de Méliès, pour conjuguer enchantements visuels et réflexion sur le mythe et les conventions sociales. Après avoir incarné Alcina et Susanna, dans Les Noces de Figaro, Jeanine de Bique revient à l’Opéra de Paris avec le rôle-titre de ce conte de fées dont Keru Lynn-Wilson, dans la fosse, fera ressortir la veine charmante et sentimentale, pour faire renouer l’opus avec le succès qu’il connut en son temps.
