Théâtre de l’Alizé / d’après Eugène Ionesco / mise en scène Patrick Dray
Dans son œuvre emblématique du théâtre de l’absurde, Rhinocéros, Eugène Ionesco compose en 1959 une fable tragi-comique sur la montée des totalitarismes par le biais d’une épidémie de « rhinocérite », une maladie qui transforme les habitants en rhinocéros et les contamine tous sauf un : Béranger. Le metteur en scène Patrick Dray replace ce classique de la littérature théâtrale dans un cirque. Pour lui, « Ionesco nous ramène à l’humanité fébrile. Celle de Bérenger, l’Auguste. Il ne cèdera pas. Il ne lâchera rien de ce qu’il est. De notre humanité. Il nous rappelle à l’ordre et son monologue final fait étrangement écho au discours de Chaplin à la fin du Dictateur ». Une pièce qui résonne particulièrement aujourd’hui.
