Les notes joyeusement cabriolent, et courent, courent en farandoles, espiègles folâtres qui entrainent irrésistiblement les corps dans leurs mouvements tourbillonnants. Portés par les sonorités des tambours, flûtes, violons, mandolines, harpes, clavecins, cornemuse et le caractéristique frappé de pieds, les danseurs suivent les élans de la musique signée Liam Ó Maonlaí, qui colore la tradition irlandaise d’accents lointains. Avec Rian, qui signifie « empreinte », le chorégraphe irlandais Michael Keegan-Dolan émancipe la danse du folklore pour lui donner tout son allant et sa verve contemporaine. « Je suis très intéressé par la notion d’« empreinte » culturelle et la manière dont cela affecte notre perception de la réalité, raconte-t-il. On devrait plus réfléchir et analyser sa propre empreinte culturelle, découvrir qui l’on est réellement et tout ce dont on a hérité. Seulement alors il deviendrait possible de passer à l’étape supérieure et d’accéder à une certaine forme de libération. ». Sur la scène illuminée d’un vert incandescent, les huit danseurs s’y adonnent avec un plaisir jubilatoire.
