Comment Feydeau dépeint-il les rapports hommes-femmes ?
Richard Brunel : Le vaudevilliste Georges Feydeau, bouleversé dans sa vie privée, réfléchit à travers la folie théâtrale au mécanisme de la relation entre l’homme et la femme. Les pièces de Feydeau révèlent, de manière absurde et délirante, les disputes amplifiées et les conflits exacerbés à l’intérieur du couple. Le schéma bourgeois ne contourne pas la dualité ancestrale qui partage la sphère féminine de la sphère masculine – les femmes restent à la maison et les hommes vont au bureau. Aujourd’hui encore, l’affaire est loin d’être réglée, certains stéréotypes subsistent. Feydeau rend compte des rapports hommes-femmes avec passion et férocité.
« La parole elle-même relève d’une colique incontrôlable : on ne s’entend ni ne s’écoute, on déjette des mots, sans réfléchir ».
Le titre J’ai la femme dans le sang n’est pas une œuvre de Feydeau mais une réplique tirée du Dindon. Comment avez-vous élaboré le montage du texte ?
R. B. : Avec Pauline Sales, on a adapté trois petites pièces, Léonie est en avance, On purge Bébé, Mais ne te promène donc pas toute nue, trois actes auxquels ont été ajoutés des extraits du Dindon, de la correspondance de Feydeau et d’un drame de jeunesse, L’amour doit se taire. L’arrière-plan biographique de Feydeau est présent, comme une correspondance entre la vie et l’œuvre sans qu’il y ait de reconstitution, une biographie imagée, une re-visitation de sa vie. J’ai la femme dans le sang est le montage d’une saga familiale. Léonie est en avance concerne la naissance du héros, On purge Bébé son enfance, Mais ne te promène pas tout nue ! sa maturité.
La question du corps grotesque est récurrente, elle fait allusion aux préoccupations les plus triviales.
R. B. : Les problèmes de constipation, de défécation et de relâchement des intestins sont métaphoriques de la morale des personnages. De même, la vulgarité des accessoires : un seau d’eaux sales, un pot de chambre. La parole elle-même relève d’une colique incontrôlable : on ne s’entend ni ne s’écoute, on déjette des mots, sans réfléchir. Niées dans leur vérité et confinées dans leur rôle social, les femmes envahissent de leur intimité le terrain professionnel des hommes en humiliant ces derniers. Le député dans Mais ne te promène pas toute nue ! ne supporte pas que son épouse soit dévêtue devant son propre fils. La situation est un cauchemar. Le père ne cesse de subir l’humiliation de l’épouse.
C’est une purgation cruelle, une catharsis par les humeurs. Plus la convention bourgeoise bride les corps, plus le corps prend le pas sur le langage !
R. B. : L’ironie et l’amertume de l’écriture est diabolique pour les interprètes, elle leur échappe, ne contient ni grâce ni épaisseur psychologique. La parole subit un naufrage, et les êtres vivent la catastrophe. L’espace intime contamine le public. Et cela déclenche le rire…
