Virtuosité, sensibilité, liberté : Richard Galliano est l’un des grands musiciens de notre temps. Il a su ouvrir à son instrument des voies radicalement nouvelles, décisivement influencé par Astor Piazzolla qui l’a poussé à assumer son destin musical en créant le New Musette, comme lui-même avait créé le Tango Nuevo encouragé par Nadia Boulanger. « Quand j’ai rencontré Piazzolla, j’étais dans une impasse… Il a senti que je devais rester assez proche des racines de mon instrument et de mes origines. Cette rencontre a été décisive pour moi. Piazzolla m’a réveillé. Sans lui, je jouerais probablement du “jazz” au premier degré, en cultivant ce complexe d’accordéoniste qui veut se guérir de l’image de l’accordéon » a souvent expliqué Galliano. Depuis, l’accordéoniste a poursuivi sa route et abordé mille répertoires, franchissant bien d’autres frontières esthétiques. A l’occasion de la sortie de l’album « Piazzolla Forever » (chez BMG), témoin d’un concert parisien de 2005, en cette année où l’on célèbre le centième anniversaire de la naissance du maître argentin, Richard Galliano (accordéon et bandonéon) réactive au New Monring la mémoire vive de cet héritage, en trio volubile et complice composé de Sébastien Giniaux à la guitare et au violoncelle et Diego Imbert à la contrebasse.
