La langue claire de Marie NDiaye, « d’un réalisme exagéré » comme elle le dit elle-même, ouvre les portes du mystérieux et du fantastique jusqu’à faire ressurgir les angoisses les plus archaïques et les plus terrifiantes. Le quotidien le plus anodin bascule dans l’inquiétant, et le malaise s’installe à mesure que s’épaississent les énigmes. Dans Rien d’humain, Bella et Djamila, deux femmes aux prénoms synonymes, s’affrontent pour un appartement dont la première est propriétaire et qu’elle veut récupérer et que la seconde ne veut pas quitter. Le lieu du drame est emprunt d’une « présence-absence » fantomatique autour de laquelle se cristallisent toutes les haines tues, toutes les hontes bues et toutes les revanches à prendre. Construite à la manière d’un film policier autour d’une série de secrets à percer, la pièce joue, selon son auteur, des tensions entre « la peur de voir revenir et l’espoir de voir revenir ». Olivier Werner met en scène la troupe de la Comédie de Valence, en résidence parisienne au TEP de décembre 2008 à février 2009, dans ce spectacle aussi dense que les silences familiaux.
