Étoiles montantes, musiciens de demain sur lesquels parient les salles de concerts européennes (réunies au sein du réseau ECHO, pour European Concert Hall Organisation), les artistes accompagnés par le projet « Rising Stars » ont l’opportunité de se faire entendre dans le cadre de saisons prestigieuses, de Londres à Athènes et de Barcelone à Stockholm. À Paris, la Cité de la musique les accueille pour une sorte de mini-festival. Première à entrer en scène, le 5 janvier, la pianiste Khatia Buniatishvili (née en 1987) propose un récital à la hauteur de sa maturité artistique, avec notamment la Sonate en si mineur de Liszt (un enregistrement en est sorti chez Sony-BMG), Pétrouchka de Stravinsky et des pièces de Chopin. On attend beaucoup également du violoncelliste suédois Jakob Koranyi dans un programme lui aussi de haute tenue (sonates pour violoncelle et piano de Brahms et Chostakovitch, pages pour violoncelle seul de Ligeti et Salonen). Deux jeunes quatuors viennent les rejoindre et participent à la Biennale de quatuors à cordes (voir notre gros plan). Il s’agit du Quatuor Tetraktys, formation présentée par le Megaron d’Athènes, et du Quatuor Modigliani, qui depuis plusieurs années déjà récolte récompenses et éloges amplement mérités : ils joueront Arriaga, Wolfgang Rihm et Mendelssohn.
