Tout est là, dans une phrase lâchée par une prostituée à Roberto Zucco : « T’es de la race de ceux qui donnent envie de pleurer rien qu’à les regarder ». De la race de ceux qui suscitent ce mouvement, cette émotion-là, en un instant, un seul regard perdu, posé, qui donnent envie de pleurer rien qu’à les regarder. Tenter d’exprimer, d’appréhender, la race à laquelle appartient Roberto Zucco est sans conteste une chose ardue, difficile à faire. Difficile, tant la nature de ce personnage est dense, trouble et ample, tant elle convoque d’idées et d’inspirations mêlées, voire contradictoires. Roberto Zucco : un petit souffle de mort, un ange terrible, un assassin flamboyant, une étoile filante, un homme encore presque un enfant, un héros solaire, un fou au regard triste… Ou simplement la projection personnelle, fantasmatique, d’un auteur qui se sait condamné à une mort prochaine et décide de lier sa dernière œuvre de théâtre à la figure sublimée d’un tueur, à une photographie aperçue sur une affiche, dans le métro : une belle gueule surprise sur un avis de recherche placardé sur le mur d’une station ou d’un couloir de métro.
La race de ceux qui donnent envie de pleurer
Mettre en scène Roberto Zucco n’est-ce pas, avant tout, se poser la question de cette race-là, de cette pointe d’humanité chimérique, rêvée, sans doute désirée, à laquelle pourrait appartenir cette figure extraordinaire ‘ N’est-ce pas, en conséquence, faire le choix d’un comédien, acteur condamné à renvoyer sur scène toute la puissance, toute la grâce, l’extrême complexité, l’esprit de solitude de Roberto Zucco, interprète condamné à « donner envie de pleurer rien qu’à le regarder » ‘ Dans la mise en scène que signe aujourd’hui Christophe Perton, c’est Olivier Werner qui porte sur ses épaules cette folle responsabilité. Mais, il ne donne pas envie de pleurer. Sa performance, quoique d’une grande honnêteté, ne parvient jamais vraiment à dépasser le cadre du simple personnage de fait divers. Pas réellement de grâce, chez ce Roberto Zucco-là, pas de faille lumineuse et pas de grand mystère. Ressortent pourtant de ce spectacle, et ce n’est pas rien, quelques grands éclats de texte et la présence des formidables Pierre Baillot, Christiane Cohendy, Christine Gagnieux, Agathe Le Bourdonnec… Ainsi, c’est essentiellement pour eux, et pour la réussite avec laquelle Christophe Perton parvient à offrir en partage la langue de Bernard-Marie Koltès, que l’on assistera à cette nouvelle création du directeur de la Comédie de Valence.
