On ne se lasse pas de suivre le parcours de cette chanteuse capable de tous les swings, à la belle voix de contralto profonde et chaude. Après des débuts irrésistibles et deux disques acclamés dans ses habits de « chanteuse de jazz », la spectaculaire rouquine nous revient avec un album différent aux généreux et groovy climats de rhythm & blues, souvenirs de son adolescence au cours de laquelle elle chantait dans des petits groupes et dans les églises. « C’est un projet à la croisée de plusieurs genres : la soul, le blues et le jazz. C’est un disque avec une couleur assez sixties, inspiré par les albums de Ray Charles et de Nina Simone de cette époque » confie Robin Mc Kelle. Une musique qui rend heureux, aux riches couleurs kodachrome, propulsée par le son généreux de l’orgue, du piano et des cuivres (dont Fred Wesley, le tromboniste historique de James Brown) et bien sûr le charme vocal magnifiquement efficace de la chanteuse.
