Son nouvel album « Modern Antique » sort sur le label Blue Note avec à la clé une date parisienne au Bataclan et une belle tournée française. Dans ce deuxième opus, la rouquine mutine fait parler son magnifique contralto dans un beau répertoire élargi de standards évoquant directement l’héritage des grandes voix du jazz, de Lover Man (Billie Holiday) à Lullaby Of Birdland (Sarah Vaughan) en passant par le blues Go To Hell (Nina Simone). Le tout accompagné, comme sur un tapis volant, d’un rutilant big band au son très 40s composé de vieux briscards dont beaucoup ont joué pour Frank Sinatra… « J’aime l’image que véhicule cette musique des années d’après-guerre. Je consacre beaucoup de mes soirées à écouter des artistes que j’aime comme Ella, Louis Armstrong, Oscar Peterson et bien d’autres. J’aime ces vieilles sonorités. J’aime absolument tout dans cette musique, de la manière dont elle est enregistrée jusqu’aux arrangements » confie la chanteuse. En tournée, Robin McKelle sera accompagnée par son trio américain régulier.
