La chanteuse/songwriter américaine signe avec son nouvel album « Alterations » un opus paradoxal, à la fois disque de reprises d’autres chanteuses mais aussi œuvre profonde et intime. Il faut dire que Robin McKelle a démarré ce projet dans un état de solitude et désarroi assez intenses, sans argent, sans producteur, enfermée seule chez elle dans le cocon de son studio new-yorkais où elle aime se retirer pour ne plus penser qu’à la musique… « J’étais au fond du trou mais je me suis relevée. J’ai décidé de me lancer sans rien entre les mains : que des chansons, des histoires et ma voix » se souvient-elle. Des 200 chansons dans lesquelles elle s’est d’abord plongée, il n’en reste que dix au menu de cet album gorgé d’émotion et de feeling, toutes l’œuvre de femmes musiciennes au destin chahuté ou à la sensibilité exacerbée, de Billie Holiday à Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin ou Joni Mitchell. Robin McKelle sait sans complaisance, dans une quête essentielle, partager leurs amours déçues, leurs joies éphémères et leurs désespoirs.
