Antoine Caubet monte Roi Lear 4/87 dans un espace quadri-frontal, le plateau perçu comme un ring de boxe sous un éclairage qui englobe acteurs et spectateurs. C’est un choix politique assumé, dirigé vers la proximité avec le public, qui doit toucher idéalement l’art du doigt. La vie, représentée sur des tréteaux de bois, présente les pleurs et la démence humaine collective, reprise et canalisée par ces acteurs de bonne foi que sont les hommes sincères en perdition, les visionnaires déshérités, Lear, Edgar, Gloucester, le Fou, Cordélia. En maîtres du plateau, Antoine Caubet, Cécile Cholet, Christine Guênon et Olivier Horeau sont tendus de conviction inspirée, aériens et terriens, proches des spectateurs, assis ou debout à leurs côtés. Dans l’alternance des scènes, les comédiens échangent leur rôle, homme ou femme, traître ou fidèle, bon ou cruel. Un théâtre militant, fait de bouts de ficelle, engagé et brut.
