Roland Petit est un monument de l’histoire de la danse. Engagé comme danseur à l’Opéra de Paris en 1940, il quitte l’Opéra en 1944 pour créer sa propre compagnie. Rapidement repéré en tant que chorégraphe, il est sollicité par plusieurs compagnies internationales et invité à Hollywood, où il tournera plusieurs films. ll prendra plus tard la direction des Ballets de Marseille, sans cesser de s’intéresser à d’autres univers, tout particulièrement celui de la comédie musicale… C’est un aperçu de ce parcours vertigineux que l’Opéra de Paris nous propose, avec une soirée composée : Le Rendez-Vous, sur un argument de Prévert, et pour lequel Petit s’était adjoint la collaboration de Picasso (rideau de scène) et Kosma (musique), rappelle l’ambiance des films de Marcel Carné ; Le Loup, sur une musique de Dutilleux et un argument d’Anouilh et Neveu, est une variante tragique de La Belle et la Bête. Enfin, Le jeune homme et la mort unit la musique de Bach, l’argument de Jean Cocteau – et le souvenir de l’interprétation mythique qu’en donna Jean Babilée.
