Seul sur scène en piano-voix, Romain Didier poursuit le spectacle Au Singulier qu’il créa au printemps au Vingtième Théâtre à Paris. Un exercice solitaire qu’il roda il y a 25 ans avec la tournée Piano Public, et qui sied plutôt bien au personnage, tout en discrétion. Une sobriété qui ne manque ni d’aisance ni de noblesse ; il ne faut d’ailleurs guère manquer d’aplomb et de charisme pour oser se passer des autres… Quoiqu’on retrouvera sur scène le spectre artistique d’Alain Leprest, avec qui Didier a écrit nombre de chansons, entre autres sur l’album De loin on aurait cru des oies (paru en mars 2011 chez Harmonia Mundi), qui vient nourrir le répertoire de ce spectacle solo.
Une carrière dédiée à la chanson depuis les années 80
Enfant de la balle biberonné à la musique classique, lyrique et contemporaine, c’est pourtant en autodidacte et nourri à la variété ou au jazz que Romain Didier a construit son interprétation. En quelque trente ans de carrière, l’artiste a épanoui son talent de composition et d’écriture au gré d’albums, de collaborations et de projets scéniques dont l’exigeante simplicité a fait genre. Sa langue est précise, familière et narrative, sa musique assise sur des mélodies expressives et intimes. Romain Didier choie autant les phrases que les phrasés musicaux… De l’art d’être un artiste de chanson.
