Il vient d’être désigné comme « Révélation Soliste Instrumental » des Victoires de la musique classique. Romain Leleu, 25 ans, est un talent magnifique de son instrument, respectueux de l’héritage de l’école de cuivres française et ouvert sur le monde et la musique de son temps. « C’est dans le mélange des styles et des répertoires que je trouve mon équilibre » confie-t-il. Il est aujourd’hui l’invité de l’auditorium du Musée d’Orsay dans un remarquable programme avec piano partagé entre des œuvresd’Enesco, Gluck, Fauré, Jean Françaix et du compositeur Philippe Hersant qui a composé spécialement pour lui Folk tunes, un cycle de cinq pièces pour trompette seule. « Il s’agit de « folklore » imaginaire, réinventé à partir de modèles existants, précise le compositeur. Se succèdent une mélodie lointainement inspirée d’un chant séfarade, une déploration, une petite sonnerie militaire, une mélopée de style oriental et une berceuse, que viennent interrompre de brèves fanfares… » complète Hersant qui souligne aussi « le jeu très fin, très précis » et la « technique éblouissante » de Romain Leleu.
