Déjà bien repéré grâce à trois albums de facture très acoustique, Romain Pilon prend un virage à 90° en mettant sur pied un trio à haute tension composé de Fred Pasqua (batterie) et Tony Paeleman (Fender rhodes, synthés, etc.). Une démarche qui justifie le titre de son album qui sort chez Jazz & People, « Copper », le cuivre étant cet excellent conducteur dont on fait les câbles qui alimentent les instruments. La musique de Romain Pilon voyage bien au-delà du jazz, nourrie d’alliages sonores, d’effets de saturation et de fulgurances virtuoses qui renvoient aux références et souvenirs rock de la jeunesse du leader. Avec le saxophoniste newyorkais Seamus Blake et le pianiste français Pierre de Bethmann en invités.
