À 16 ans, Jasmine voulait quitter les tours de sa banlieue, cesser d’être invisible aux yeux des autres, avoir la sensation d’exister. « Jasmine est une jeune fille intelligente, mais elle s’est trompée de rêve, explique l’autrice Catherine Benhamou. Elle croit avoir rencontré l’amour grâce à internet, mais là aussi elle s’est trompée. Elle n’a pas vu le piège… » C’est Imène, sa meilleure amie, personnage interprété par la comédienne Marion Solange-Malenfant, qui nous raconte son histoire. Texte lauréat du Grand prix de littérature dramatique 2020, Romance dresse le portrait poignant d’une jeunesse en déshérence. Pour mettre en scène ce monologue, Laurent Maindon a fait le pari de la plus grande sobriété. Afin d’être au plus proche du texte. Afin de faire résonner la parole d’Imène de façon forte et universelle.
