De la nature et l’origine de l’esprit emprunte son titre au deuxième livre de L’Ethique. Quand il forme des idées adéquates, l’esprit, dit Spinoza, connaît les choses comme Dieu les connaît, telles qu’elles sont en soi, éternellement et nécessairement. Castellucci installe une femme suspendue par un doigt à un fil et un chien qui miaule : l’image créée par l’artiste atteint le spectateur qui lui donne forme. La performance vise à « consacrer la fusion entre la réception du spectateur et la création de l’image d’origine », interrogeant ainsi leur possible adéquation. Dans Ce que l’homme a fait de plus grand sur terre, Silvia Costa (collaboratrice artistique de Castellucci et actrice dans le précédent opus), s’inspire d’une nouvelle de Raymond Carver, Cathedral, pour questionner la forme et l’impossibilité de sa définition. Dans un cube scindé en deux, deux comédiens jouent dos au public, qui les « imagine comme on le fait en lisant un roman ». Quelle adéquation entre ce que l’artiste donne à voir et ce que voit le spectateur ? Là encore, l’art interroge son essence et ses vicissitudes.
