Roméo et Juliette au tombeau. C’est par cette scène, où tout se clôt, que commence le ballet de Thierry Malandain. Mais les personnages sont démultipliés : neuf couples gisent ici, « comme si ce rêve trop beau était celui de tous », glisse le chorégraphe… C’est en effet la force universelle de la tragédie qu’il a souhaité mettre en valeur. Dans une scénographie aussi puissante qu’épurée, il nous livre une danse de passion, intense et ciselée. La chorégraphie s’appuie sur la musique d’Hector Berlioz, une symphonie dramatique pour solistes, choeur et orchestre, qui ne suit pas à la lettre le récit shakespearien, mais qui en choisit des moments phare : le bal, la scène d’amour… Une façon d’évoquer une histoire que nous connaissons tous, et qui continue d’agir en nous.
