En 2008, le festival Suresnes Cités Danse passe une commande au chorégraphe hip-hop Sébastien Lefrançois : il s’agira de revisiter Roméo et Juliette, avec sept danseurs, un comédien et un circassien. Cette pièce est aujourd’hui reprise pour quatre dates au Théâtre de Suresnes Jean Vilar. C’est l’occasion de découvrir ou redécouvrir la danse que le chorégraphe et son équipe ont inventée pour donner un souffle à la fois neuf et respectueux à l’œuvre de Shakespeare (qui a donné lieu, à plusieurs reprises, à des chorégraphies) : le vocabulaire hip hop révèle ici son potentiel expressif, voire lyrique. Dans une scénographie changeante, qui voit chaque élément de décor se dissoudre pour se métamorphoser, et dans un univers sonore original mêlant musique, jazz et musique électronique, l’histoire tragique des deux familles rivales et des deux amants se rejoue, avec ardeur et jeunesse.
