Le défi était de taille : reprendre à son compte l’histoire magnifiée par Shakespeare, et qui résonne, dans l’imaginaire des danseurs, à travers le West Side Story de Jerome Robbins. Malgré un titre au pluriel, le chorégraphe Sébastien Lefrançois n’a pas pu tendre à l’universalité dans cette pièce qui essaye, malgré tout, de raconter une histoire. En optant pour la narration et la théâtralité, Lefrançois laisse la danse et ses inventions au second plan. L’on suit pas à pas l’évolution de la relation entre les deux jeunes gens, on se délecte de numéros précieux, de scènes d’amour et de mort. Les deux amoureux portent à bout de bras la pièce, mais c’est parfois trop pour leurs jeunes épaules et pour une pièce censée conjuguer Shakespeare à la mode hip hop.
